Goodwill Computer Organization is a community based organization and aims to help by offering free computer tutorial courses on the internet for the new user as well as for the more experienced computer user looking to expand their skills.
Depending on your needs, we have Beginner and Intermediate Classes in the Tutorials section, through to Hacking for the more experienced user. What we hope to do is help to improve your computer skills and maybe help fix some of the most common problems that occur in the day to day running of computer systems.
We
have a small
group of volunteers who assist with teaching computer classes at our
computer
room and they are also helping in the expansion of our online tutorials.
All our tutorials online are free and there are no obligations to complete them. They are designed to get the new user up and running in a short period of time and cover many of the areas where the new user may have difficulties starting out. The courses are very similar to our public computer courses, and the material is kept up to date both online and in the classroom.
The New Website Design
We have completely changed over our webpage from Joomla (a CMSprogram) to a more traditional type which is all hand written.
Why?
Though Joomla makes it very easy to get a Website up and running quickly, it is also hard to make light weight pages which are easy on the bandwidth.
The main problem I had was with the modules sizes. Also there were problems with adding lesson pages, though that is probably because of my lack of understanding the development requirements.
Having said that, it is still a very good product which will suit many new website builders and is both Open Source and free to download and use.
